Today i was moved to learn from a leading newspaper about the plight of foresaken women of Vrindavan of Uttarpradesh, the most populous state of India. Does it happen anywhere in the world, i dont know, i was shocked to know the hardship endured by women of this part.Before i step into the shocking story i will give you a background picture of vrindavan. Vrindavan is known as the shelter of widows.The Widows are generally treated by relatives as unwanted lot for they are unproductive or a burden to family, therefore they opt to dump these poor ladies at the shelter homes of Vrindavan. The place inhabit not only the foresaken women folks of Uttarpradesh but also many from near by states, who endure the hardships silently.
However the noble deed of vrindavan is eroded by the unscrupulous practices followed in the management of these homes. Inmates are accomodated in an untidy and unhealthy environment with limited or no access to drinking water and other basic necessities.They are entitled to no wages because they are unskilled and illiterate. No measures or policies are furnished to empower them but are left without any assistance to languish with in the walls of their stinking shelter.
The most shocking thing about this mismanagement is that the inmates have to pay for the funeral of thier associate, and that too to the sweepers who take away the dead bodies, chop them into pieces to dispose of in jute backs!!!!, what a pity is it for these poor ladies. They are deprived of everything in their worldly life and now they are deprived a decent funeral too which is a person's last ritual in this world.
No one seems to be moved by the sorry state of the underprivileged section of the society, every one is busy talking about multi billion projects, IPL matches, volatile markets and new year parties. Policy makers are only concerned about GDP growth,they are least cared about transforming the growthu into development, they are not attending the problems of the downtrodden.The rich and poor divide is getting wide day by day.At this juncture i ask you, how can a nation that even can't provide a decent funeral for their citizen can justify their GDP growth and the emerging economic clout???
